More than 150 people had their spirits lifted thanks to The Farmer Wants a Life event hosted by BMO Business Centre in Moonie and Dalby last week.

BMO communications manager Megan James said professional voice-over artist and international Make a Wish Foundation volunteer of the year Robyn Moore had the audience captivated with both humour and moments of solemn reflection.

“It’s difficult to explain the 2017 The Farmer Wants a Life, it was an experience like we’ve never had before,” Mrs James said.

“The room erupted so many times with side-splitting laughter, then Robyn would take us right to the cliff face and give us moments of real clarity and quiet reflection.”

She said The Farmer Wants a Life was BMO’s way to give local farming communities a morale boost and help them navigate the roller coaster of life.

“We can provide people the best financial planning and accounting advice, but if we are not supporting people in their well-being as a whole person, then our work has little point,” she said.

After revealing she was the voice of Blinky Bill and all the female voices in the How Green Was our Cactus? radio show, Ms Moore drew the audience into the more serious side of her life’s work.

Mrs James said the evening also reminded people to laugh more.

“It was pretty confronting when Robyn told us that in the 1950s people laughed an average of 18 minutes a day, these days we are only laughing around four minutes a day,” she said.

In Campbelltown NSW…Robyn was surprised to discover Vesna (from Yoram Gross Studios) was becoming an Australian Citizen that Day!

Robyn has been an Australia Day Ambassador for Fairfield, Albury, Culcairn and Urana Shire, Bega, Windsor, Port Macquarie, Gunnedah, Glen Innes, New Norfolk, Walcha, Campbelltown, Mollymook, Carbonne Shire, Yass and Canberra, Captain’s Flat and Bungendore, Blue Mountains, Corowa, Auburn (which has the highest number of refugees in Australia), Latrobe and in 2014, was the Ambassador in the Shire in which she grew up…Clarence,Tasmania.

We then had a Wish Party with Kailin’s family , friends, Make-A-Wish Volunteers and our “Fairy Builders!”

4 year old Kaitlin has had chemotherapy most of her life so after her treatment, she wanted to catch up for lost time…and was full of energy during the Home Visit! Her WISH was for a Play Centre in her Back Yard! On the Wish Granting Day…we had to distract the whole family all morning (with Mini Golf, Swimming and a visit to Historic Richmond) while Kaitlin’s Play Centre was being secretly assembled by 4 wonderful Volunteer Builders!!! (with instructions in Chinese!) What a moment when Kaitlin arrived home!

Wish Child Sophie was watching “Blinky” on TV at her Home Visit. “Blinky” has been calling her for 3 years when she’s in hospital or at home!

As a Voice Over Artist, Robyn first worked for Yoram Gross in 1983. Yoram is the “Father of Australian Animation” and his amazing body of work has been seen all over the world! Robyn and Yoram have continued their creative partnership in films and TV Seres for 30+ years! Starting with 1 voice in “Dot and the Bunny”, Robyn was then invited to create all female voices in the following 6 “Dot” Movies. In 1992, Yoram asked Robyn to create a voice for the iconic Australian Koala, “Blinky Bill”, an opportunity which would bring delight to Robyn, millions of Australian Children…and in particular many Make-A-Wish Children. Numerous series followed …and Robyn is currently working on Yoram’s latest animation project for Infant children called “Bingo and Bongo”!
